The IB PYP curriculum for student aged 3-12 is known as an international ‘best practice’ educational framework that is differentiated to meet the individual needs of individual students.
Stalford believe in fostering student’s natural curiosity, creativity and passion for learning so it can flourish into skills for a happy, bright and successful future. With this, we have selected this curriculum at NTSIS Primary School as it is highly reputed, internationally recognised, value-based curriculum that put students at the centre of the learning. Anchored in the IB PYP, our students are encouraged to question, collaborate, problem solve and lead investigations to develop essential learning and personal development skills, whilst at the same time fostering intercultural understanding and respect.
The IB PYP at NTSIS is underpinned by the Singapore National Curriculum as well as the English and Chinese National Curriculum to implement age appropriate learning outcomes. Through NTSIS IB PYP Curriculum, our students acquire and apply skills that are relevant to all subject areas and valuable learning that goes on both in the classroom and in life outside the school. We provide an inquiry-based learning approach with the main instruction of language in English. Our students inquire into Arts, Language, Mathematics, Science, Social studies and Personal Social and Physical Education, under six transdisciplinary themes. Our programme framework allows students to explore various topics across the subject areas, rather than merely memorizing facts or studying topics in isolation. This makes it possible for students to expand their skills and knowledge and apply them in real-world contexts. Altogether, it drives students to develop a greater sense of ownership and involvement and exhibit high levels of motivation. We place great importance on creating a happy and intriguing learning environment.
At NTSIS, social development is an integral part of each student’s education. We are dedicated to the development of attributes that are essential factors to participate in constructing a compassionate and responsible society. As each student is a member of a homeroom, they develop strong relationships with our dedicated and IB qualified teachers and their classmates, and they contribute to creating a community of belonging and learning. As an international school, we provide an important link between foreigners and the local community. We welcome new families and assist them when they make the transition to a new life in Nantong.
By emphasizing these five components, the NTSIS PYP provides a rigorous programme for young learners, equipping them to excel in the classroom and beyond. This framework ensures that learning is engaging and relevant to the challenges of living in a diverse, 21st– century society.
The IB framework offers advantages over other frameworks, especially in critical subject areas. According to an International Schools’ Assessment study conducted from 2009-2019, IB PYP students outperformed their non-PYP counterparts in reading, writing and mathematics. In a 2015 Australian study, PYP students surpassed the national average in nationwide science tests.
