Establishing a bridge of communication and fostering friendships

On July 6th, the Singapore-China Youth Internship and Exchange Program (YES) event was successfully hosted by Nantong Stalford International School.

The Youth International Internship Exchange Program is an international internship cooperation program between the Chinese and Singaporean governments. It aims to enrich the professional experience of young people, deepen mutual understanding, enhance the friendship between the two nations, and strengthen personal bilateral exchanges and cooperation. The Singapore-China Youth Internship and Exchange Program (YES) is jointly led by the Ministry of Education of Singapore and the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security of China, and is implemented by the National Talent Exchange Center and Trade China. Launched in Suzhou, Jiangsu in July 2023, the plan has helped young people from China and Singapore to gain a better understanding of each other’s economy and culture, and promoted Sino-Singapore ties and friendship.

The current event was jointly organized by Singapore “Business China” and Nantong Stalford International School. The attendees included: Professor Feng Yaohua and Ms. Ye Yanmei – who head up “Business China” in Singapore, the leaders of the People’s Social Affairs Bureau of Nantong Economic Development Zone, the leaders of “Nantong Daily” and related reporters, Mr. Ronnie, Stalford board member, Principal Yang Zhichong and the main management of Nantong Stalford International School. In addition, the heads of Haiting (Nantong) Shipping Co., Ltd., Ctrip Information Technology, Jingji Electromechanical, Zhongtian Technology Group, Shibide Group, Lidel Electronic Information Technology and other companies participated in the meeting.

The meeting, which was chaired by Principal Lisa, opened with a welcome address from Mr. Ronnie – board member of the Stalford Group. He emphasized the fact that the YES*China-Singapore Youth Internship Exchange Program was held in Nantong for the first time and that the event signifies the valuable progress that has been made in talent resourcing and cultural exchanges between Singapore and China. He expressed his hope that it would be implement successfully and would achieve the expected results, becoming a model for friendly exchanges between the two countries.

Professor Feng Yaohua gave a comprehensive introduction to the YES·China—Singapore Youth Internship Exchange Program, and believes that this project can achieve fruitful results in Nantong.

Yang Zhichong, the Director of Nantong Stalford International School, underlined the importance of the event to build a bridge for the internship exchanges between students from China and Singapore. He introduced the development history of the school, the introduction of the “2+1.5 special class”, the achievements and prospects of the junior high school “famous-teacher” class, and the strong growth of the international department. He concluded by saying that through hard work, the programme can contribute to the growth of students and promote international exchanges.

The relevant heads of Singaporean- and outstanding local, private companies participating in the event, took to the stage to introduce the development of their respective companies and industries in detail, and expressed their willingness to provide internship positions to provide young people from the two countries with learning and exchange opportunities. 

Yang Xueli, Director of personnel Administration of Shibide Precision Technology Nantong Co., Ltd., stated that although the group is headquartered in Singapore, the Nantong division has developed well in the past two years since its establishment. He noted in particular the “superiority of Nantong’s investment environment and the sincerity of Nantong people”. The China-Singapore exchange program is very good and can provide students from the two countries with the opportunity to go abroad for internship and exchange. He committed his company to the programme by saying: “As a Singapore company, we will definitely cooperate fully and support more students with internship positions, help students nurture their talent, and deepen Sino-Singapore friendship”. He concluded by thanking Nantong Stalford International School for providing their children with quality and relevant education.

In summary, this event – which was concluded in a warm, friendly and cheerful atmosphere and lasted for more than three hours – provided a good platform for relevant institutions and enterprises to understand each other, share information, promote exchanges, and enhance friendship.
